The multipurpose Padma Bridge

A crucial large-scale infrastructure project in the communication industry is the proposed Padma Multipurpose Bridge Design Project (PMBDP). The project's execution will primarily help Bangladesh's economy in a variety of ways. The southwest region of Bangladesh is cut off from the rest of the nation by the Padma River.

Although the southwest region of Bangladesh has seen significant advancements and improvements in the organization of its roads, this region is still unable to take advantage of an integrated road network due to the lack of a bridge over the Padma River. Only ferries are currently used to cross the Padma River to connect the southwest region with the rest of the nation.

There are very few ferry services available, and trucks must wait longer than 2 hours and transports must wait longer than 10 hours at ferry ghats. Additionally, the Padma Riverbanks are extremely unstable, especially on the south side (Janjira), and the River's width fluctuates frequently, making the methodology ghats occasionally unreliable. These circumstances make it difficult to develop existing ferry terminals.

The proposed bridge will provide direct connections between two important seaports in the country, completing the gaps in the Tamabil-Sylhet-Sorail-Kanchpur-Dhaka-Mawa-Bhatiapara-Norail-Jessore Benapole parkway, and serve as a fundamental component of the network contexts of Asian Highway No. 1 and the Trans-Asian rail route.

The distance between Dhaka and nearly all important locations in the southwest area will be reduced by 100 kilometres (km) or more, which will result in significant investments in traveller and product development time and costs, as well as vehicle activity and maintenance costs, while extending the useful lifespan of vehicles, investing in fuel usage, and reducing air pollution.
